Happy New Year!
A new year is always full of new year’s resolutions and renewed energy to start fresh. I’ve seen the usual plethora of quotes and statements through social media the last few days about various opportunities of the new year which get you pumped and ready to tackle any challenge.
We wanted to summarise a few key tasks we would challenge business owners to adopt this year as we start fresh and enthusiastic.
1. Goals Goals Goals…… set your goals.
Take some time to sit down and decide exactly what it is you want to achieve this year. Remember goals need to be SMART (you can read my previous blog on what this means here). At the least set yourself 1 goal per quarter.
Before you set about setting your goals, take the time to reflect on 2015. What did you do that worked? What didn’t work? What could you have done differently to make it work? What did you achieve?
3. 90 Day Plan
The 90-day plan seems to be a consistent strategy in all successful businesses. Set your goals for the quarter and break it down into weekly bite sized tasks. We have used www.trello.com in the past as an ‘electronic sticky note’ option. I’m sure there are many other tools out there. If you have space, a big sheet of butchers paper up on the wall with real sticky notes works well too.
4. Keep balanced in life – The 5 Fs – Fun, Finance, Family, Fitness & Faith
This is a concept from Wez Hone from Business Greenhouse. You can interchange the Faith for whatever matches with your own spiritual beliefs. The concept of reflecting and then consciously putting the effort into balancing all these areas of your life is so important. Life isn’t all about business, so make sure you’re putting the work in where you need to and taking time out when necessary also.
Do you have any of the methods above in place in your business already. How do you find them? Do they work? Any suggestions for others on how to get the most out of these tasks?
